Bitcoin Exchange OKX Enters Australian Market

OKX Launches SMSF Platform to Boost Crypto in Australian Retirement Sector

  • OKX has introduced a platform for self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) in Australia, focusing on digital assets.
  • SMSF crypto holdings have increased sevenfold since 2021, now ranging between $1.7 billion (US$1.1 billion) and $1.8 billion (US$1.2 billion).
  • Digital asset allocations within SMSFs have surged by approximately 746% from March 2020 to March 2025.
  • Despite this growth, crypto comprises less than 0.3% of the total A$4.3 trillion Australian pension system.
  • The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority reported a modest growth of only 5.5% in total SMSF assets over the past year.

OKX’s new platform aims to provide robust infrastructure for SMSF trustees seeking to include digital assets in their portfolios, addressing specific requirements like end-of-year reporting and compliance checks.

While digital asset allocations within SMSFs have grown significantly, they still represent a small fraction of Australia’s overall retirement savings landscape, highlighting both potential and caution among investors.(Source)
