Bitcoin Firms Secure OCC Banking Charters

OCC Grants Conditional Banking Charters to Major Stablecoin Issuers

  • The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted conditional approval for national trust banking charters to four stablecoin issuers, including Circle, Ripple, BitGo, and Paxos Trust Company.
  • These companies are responsible for issuing major stablecoins such as USDC, RLUSD, USDS, and PYUSD, collectively reaching a market value of $313 billion in 2025.
  • Other crypto firms like Coinbase and Crypto.com’s Foris DAX National Trust Bank still have pending applications with the OCC.

The OCC’s decision marks a significant step in integrating digital assets into the federal banking system by granting conditional charters to major stablecoin issuers. This move is expected to enhance consumer access to new financial products and services while fostering a competitive banking environment.

With stablecoins now valued at $313 billion due to regulatory frameworks like the GENIUS Act, these approvals underscore the growing importance of digital assets in traditional financial systems. Source
