Bitcoin Reserve Launches in Florida

Florida Proposes Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Outside State Treasury

  • A new bill, HB 1039, proposes the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve in Florida.
  • The reserve would be managed by the state’s Chief Financial Officer and exist outside the state treasury.
  • Only three states—New Hampshire, Arizona, and Texas—have passed similar legislation for crypto reserves.
  • The bill requires an asset to maintain a market cap of at least $500 billion over two years to qualify for the reserve.
  • Bitcoin currently has a market cap exceeding $1.8 trillion, while Ethereum‘s market cap is around $377 billion.

Florida’s proposed Bitcoin reserve aims to enhance financial resilience and provide security against economic volatility and inflation. The bill also suggests forming an advisory committee led by the state CFO with members experienced in cryptocurrency investing.

If enacted, HB1039 would establish a special fund outside the State Treasury, potentially making Florida one of the few states with such a strategic crypto reserve. (Source)
