Bitcoin Strike Force Targets China Scams

DOJ Launches Strike Force to Combat Chinese Crypto Scams

  • The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a Scam Center Strike Force targeting international crypto scams linked to Chinese crime networks.
  • U.S. Attorney for D.C., Jeanine Pirro, announced that up to $135 billion was stolen from Americans in such scams during the year, with $480 million in stolen crypto already seized.
  • The initiative involves coordination between DOJ, FBI, Secret Service, and other agencies to dismantle these fraud networks.

The new interagency effort aims to combat “pig butchering” schemes where scammers build trust with victims before stealing their money. This coordinated approach marks a significant shift in tackling global crypto fraud networks effectively.

The DOJ’s recent actions include seizing $14 billion worth of Bitcoin from a scam network based in Cambodia, showcasing the potential impact of this unified strategy against crypto crimes. (Source)
