Qubic Restarts Chain; Victims Seek Stolen QU

Qubic restarted its blockchain after attackers drained 1,404 wallets of about 2.94 trillion QU, worth $1.3 million, in an Oct. 18 security incident. Transactions had resumed by the evening of Oct. 19. Qubic said its validators approved a recovery plan on Oct. 20 and began paying verified victims, but recovery of funds held at MEXC depends on the exchange and any law-enforcement proceedings.

The source says the attackers exploited predictable wallet recovery seeds rather than breaking the blockchain. Qubic said it fixed the software flaw in wallet version 4.26.4, but updating does not make an affected old seed safe; users must create a new wallet and transfer their funds. Victims have until May 1, 2027, to file claims, and approved claims face a seven-day dispute period before payment.
