The incident was identified as unauthorized access exploiting a vulnerability in Oracle controls. Scroll confirmed the breach and delayed finalizing the chain for an investigation, later determining the issue was specific to RhoMarkets and resuming normal operations.
The attacker contacted RhoMarkets, offering to return the funds if the platform acknowledged the misconfiguration as a system flaw rather than a hack. This unusual move reflects the attacker’s intent to highlight the platform’s security oversight.
