Binance’s ongoing legal troubles with the Nigerian government have caught the attention of the Blockchain Industry Coordinating Committee of Nigeria (BICCoN). The group, representing Nigeria’s blockchain sector, has urged for a balanced resolution to protect the country’s international reputation.
In their statement, BICCoN emphasized the need for economic stability and regulatory adherence while fostering collaboration with global partners. The detention of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has caused a noticeable decline in foreign investments, posing a threat to Nigeria’s economic growth.
BICCoN warned that delays in resolving the matter could harm the nation’s blockchain industry and hinder Nigerian authorities’ ability to combat financial crimes effectively. They recommended “constructive dialogue” and transparent processes to resolve the issue fairly.
Ultimately, BICCoN stressed that a balanced approach could help create a supportive environment for Nigeria’s blockchain sector, ensuring long-term benefits and maintaining crucial international partnerships.
Gambaryan and Binance regional manager Nadeem Anjarwalla were detained on February 26 during their visit to Nigeria to address charges of tax evasion and money laundering. The situation has drawn international attention, with U.S. lawmakers advocating for Gambaryan’s release.
