Icebreaker Secures $5M for Blockchain LinkedIn Rival

Icebreaker, founded by Coinbase and Google alumni Dan Stone and Jack Dillé, raised $5 million in seed funding to develop a blockchain-based rival to LinkedIn. The funding round, led by CoinFund, values the company at $21 million.

Icebreaker aims to be the “world’s first open professional network,” utilizing blockchain to unify professional profiles and networks. This enables instant credential verification and secure endorsements, contrasting with LinkedIn’s centralized control.

CoinFund CEO Alex Felix supports Icebreaker’s mission to provide true ownership of professional identities online. The platform addresses AI-driven noise and fake personas, enhancing trust and context in digital networking.

Historically, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong had considered a decentralized LinkedIn, and last month, Bondex raised over $10 million to compete in the web3 professional networking space.

Icebreaker’s innovative approach could redefine professional networking by ensuring secure and verified identities, marking a strategic shift towards decentralized digital identity management.
