Icebreaker, an open-source professional network created by Coinbase and Google alumni, has raised $5 million in seed funding, valuing the company at $21 million. Coinfund led the investment, with support from Accomplice, Anagram, and Legion Capital.
The platform aims to be the world’s first open professional network, using blockchain technology to unify users’ professional profiles for instant credential verification and secure endorsements. This contrasts with LinkedIn’s centralized control.
CoinFund CEO Alex Felix emphasized the potential of crypto in developing social graphs, while co-founder Jack Dillé highlighted the issue of misinformation on traditional platforms.
Icebreaker has tested its platform with web3 companies like Coinbase and Opensea. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong previously proposed a decentralized LinkedIn.
