A team of developers linked to The Open Network (TON) on Telegram announced the launch of the TON Applications Chain (TAC) at the Ethereum Community Conference in Brussels. This new layer-2 chain will enable EVM-based decentralized applications to connect with TON, using Polygon’s Chain Development Kit.
Despite reports, the TON Foundation clarified they are not behind TAC. This move follows a trend of creating layer-2 networks to scale Ethereum, offering cheaper transaction fees while maintaining Ethereum’s security.
TON and Telegram have gained attention by allowing developers to build dapps on their platform, reaching a 900 million global user base. Popular mini-games like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat have capitalized on this, engaging millions through gamified tasks.
The strategic importance lies in expanding TON’s ecosystem beyond Telegram, potentially driving significant growth in Web3 adoption.
