Qubic halted its blockchain network after an attacker reportedly drained about $1.4 million from more than 1,400 accounts using weakly generated wallet seeds, according to the project. The network was still paused at the time of the report, and Qubic had not announced a restart date. Qubic said the flaw affected seeds generated in any browser on an iPhone or iPad, in Safari on a Mac until October 18, 2026, or in its iOS app before July 2025.
Qubic said 87.1% of the stolen funds remained frozen on its network. The other 12.9% was sent to MEXC, which froze the receiving account within about an hour, it said. Qubic said it had fixed the seed-generation flaw in the latest web wallet and was preparing recovery options for a vote by the network’s Computors, who will decide what happens to the frozen funds.
