The Sandbox, a decentralized gaming platform, has launched The Sandbox DAO to make its virtual world fully community-driven. Starting on May 28, users holding SAND tokens or LAND NFTs can vote on network improvements called Sandbox Improvement Proposals (SIPs).
Initially, holders of five SAND or one LAND will vote on three foundational proposals to kickstart DAO operations. Although developers retain some control, most decisions will be community-driven. This phased rollout aims for long-term success through careful testing and issue resolution.
A council, including co-founder Sebastien Borget and other notable members, will review and provide feedback on SIPs, ensuring alignment with the DAO’s vision. Despite SAND’s price being down 94.7% from its 2021 high, The Sandbox remains a popular metaverse destination.
This move towards a community-driven model signifies The Sandbox’s commitment to sustainable growth and decentralized governance, potentially reshaping the future of virtual worlds.
