Blockchain: IBM Connects Banks to Swift

IBM and Swift Collaborate on Blockchain Integration for Banks

  • IBM’s Digital Asset Haven now connects financial institutions to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger through a beta integration.
  • Banks can execute tokenized-deposit transactions using existing ISO 20022 payment messages, easing the transition to blockchain technology.
  • Swift’s ledger is currently being tested by a group of 17 first-mover institutions, demonstrating early adoption.
  • An on-premises version of Digital Asset Haven allows banks to operate the platform within their own data centers using IBM Z and LinuxONE infrastructure.
  • Swift connects over 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets.

This integration allows banks to leverage blockchain benefits while maintaining familiar operational processes, addressing one of the major challenges in institutional blockchain adoption—compatibility with existing systems.

By enabling tokenized deposits through established messaging formats, IBM and Swift aim to streamline the adoption process for financial institutions, making blockchain technology more accessible and operationally familiar.
