Coinbase Launches Direct INR Payment Rails for Indian Users
- Starting June 1, 2026, Coinbase will allow Indian customers to deposit and withdraw Indian rupees (INR) directly via Immediate Payment Service (IMPS).
- The Indian cryptocurrency market reached $3.04 billion in value in the previous year and is projected to grow to $14.21 billion by 2034.
- Coinbase aims to provide a platform with local INR order books, ensuring dedicated liquidity for users in India.
- The exchange has registered with the Financial Intelligence Unit of India (FIU-IND) to address regulatory challenges and establish a long-term presence.
- Coinbase will also introduce perpetual futures contracts and advanced trading tools for professional users through its “Coinbase Advanced” suite.
This move is significant as it simplifies the process for Indian users who previously relied on Peer-to-Peer markets or intermediaries, which posed risks of scams and account freezes. By integrating directly with IMPS, Coinbase enhances accessibility for retail traders while also catering to institutional needs.
With this initiative, Coinbase is positioning itself strongly in India’s growing crypto landscape, which is expected to expand at a CAGR of approximately 18.66% until the end of the decade.
