Gate.io has announced it will stop all services in Japan, halting new account openings for Japanese residents starting July 22. The exchange detailed a compliance process to help customers move assets to platforms that meet Japanese regulations.
Gate.io stated the decision aligns with its commitment to adhering to regional financial laws. The platform will guide users through the transition, including deleting descriptions related to Japanese users and markets on its website.
Japan requires crypto exchanges to register and get approval from the Financial Services Agency (FSA) and the Finance Bureau. Recently, Japan has tightened crypto regulations to protect investors.
In May, Gate.io’s subsidiary, Gate.HK, withdrew its licensing application in Hong Kong. This move reflects a growing trend among exchanges to navigate stricter regulatory landscapes.
This strategic decision underscores the increasing regulatory scrutiny in global crypto markets and Gate.io’s commitment to compliance.
