FTX Profits by Selling Anthropic AI Shares

FTX has sold its remaining shares in AI company Anthropic, known for the Claude chatbot, netting over $452 million. This sale, executed at $30 per share, contributes to a total gain of approximately $1.3 billion from Anthropic investments.

G Squared led this latest purchase, acquiring 4.5 million shares for $135 million. Other buyers included Fund FG-BLU and various hedge funds. Previously, FTX sold a significant portion of its Anthropic shares to Abu Dhabi investors, amassing around $900 million.

FTX officials are optimistic about repaying creditors, given the estate’s substantial cash reserves and the high value of Anthropic shares. Initially investing $500 million for an 8% stake in 2021, FTX benefited from the AI sector’s growth and further investments from Google and Amazon.

This asset liquidation marks a strategic step for FTX in addressing its bankruptcy obligations, highlighting the critical role of AI investments in financial recoveries.
