Coinbase Urges Legislative Crypto Regulations Now

Coinbase CLO Paul Grewal has reiterated the need for statute-backed crypto regulations in the US. This comes in response to the SEC’s criticized enforcement-only approach. Amidst this regulatory landscape, crypto stakeholders are pushing for clearer, pro-industry rules.

Grewal emphasized the importance of legislative rulemaking on social media, citing research that shows how the SEC’s current stance leads to many lawsuits and low market sentiments. This has caused experts to move to regions with clearer rules, like Europe, which has the MiCA regulation.

Despite the ongoing challenges, there’s hope. Recent legislative efforts, such as the progress of FIT21 and attempts to counter Gary Gensler’s SAB 121, show a potential shift. Crypto has also become a significant election issue, with increased activity from crypto Super PACs supporting pro-market candidates.

In summary, the push for statute-driven crypto regulations is crucial for long-term market stability and growth. Ensuring clear and legislative-backed rules will benefit both the industry and its stakeholders.
