FTX Bankruptcy Costs: $670M on Consultants and Lawyers

FTX has spent $672.5 million on legal and consulting fees since declaring bankruptcy in November 2022. Major recipients include legal firms Alvarez and Marsel, which received $198.2 million, and Sullivan and Cromwell, which was paid $194 million.

In March 2023 alone, payouts peaked at nearly $50 million. Total fees are expected to exceed $1 billion before client compensations begin. This high financial burden underscores the significant costs associated with bankruptcy in the crypto sector, delaying compensations to affected clients.

Sullivan and Cromwell face a class-action lawsuit alleging their involvement in FTX’s fraudulent activities. The ongoing legal and financial challenges highlight the need for stricter regulatory oversight in the cryptocurrency industry.

These developments could shape future regulations and industry standards, impacting the broader crypto ecosystem significantly.
