Vanguard Faces Backlash Over Ethereum ETF Ban

Vanguard Group, a top U.S. investment advisor, faces backlash for banning Spot Ethereum ETFs on its platform. This decision comes despite rising interest in crypto assets and new regulatory changes.

Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas criticized Vanguard on social media, calling the move “silly” and excessive. He acknowledged Vanguard’s cautious approach but noted the firm’s unique co-op structure, which focuses less on revenue.

Although the SEC has approved 19b-4 filings for Spot Ethereum ETFs, they are not yet tradable. Vanguard continues to view cryptocurrencies as immature assets, not aligning with their focus on equities, bonds, and cash.

However, there’s hope with Vanguard’s new CEO, Salim Ramji, who has a crypto-friendly background. His influence could change Vanguard’s stance on cryptocurrency products.

Vanguard’s decision reflects its long-term strategy to prioritize stable, well-balanced portfolios over emerging, volatile assets.
