Ethereum Name Service Soars with ETF Launch

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) surged 7.6% on the day the first-ever spot Ethereum ETFs launched in the U.S. This jump makes ENS the top gainer among the largest 100 crypto assets amidst a global market downturn.

ENS is trading at $27.32, up 4.4% in the last 24 hours, with a market cap of $896 million. Despite this rise, ENS is still down 68% from its all-time high of $85.69, achieved on November 11, 2021. Over the past year, ENS has surged over 185%, outpacing Ethereum and Bitcoin, which recorded gains of 84% and 122% respectively.

ENS operates as a decentralized system on the Ethereum blockchain, allowing users to assign easy-to-remember names like “jake.eth” to digital identifiers. This system represents a shift from traditional domain name systems, governed by smart contracts and a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has emphasized integrating ENS with layer-2 blockchains to reduce costs and enhance functionality. The surge in ENS’s price highlights its potential as a lower-cap alternative to Ethereum, especially as ETH gains institutional interest. This event underscores the growing importance of decentralized systems in the evolving crypto landscape.
