‘Ethereum ETF Launch: Blackrock’s S-1 Update’

BlackRock has updated its S-1 filing for a spot Ethereum ETF, moving closer to approval as of May 29. The amendment builds on their initial November 2023 filing.

Significant milestones include the SEC’s approval of 19b-4 listing rule changes on May 23, which Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart identified as pivotal. The filing fills placeholder data, revealing $10 million in seed funding from BlackRock Financial Management.

A standout feature is the option for in-kind creation and redemptions, allowing crypto transactions instead of cash, though its approval remains uncertain. The fund’s ticker is ETHA, with Wilmington Trust as the Delaware trustee and the Bank of New York Mellon as the trust administrator.

BlackRock’s decision to exclude ETH staking aligns with industry standards and sets a clear precedent. This strategic move could pave the way for more spot Ethereum ETFs, offering investors diversified access to crypto assets.
