Asian central banks unite for cross-border stablecoins

The Monetary Authority of Singapore announced on Oct. 23, 2026, that Malaysia’s and Thailand’s central banks had joined Singapore as policymaker members of BLOOM, a public-private initiative focused on cross-border settlement in digital money. The partners aim to develop shared frameworks that could reduce the need for separate agreements and lower implementation costs; they will examine how institutions accept different forms of digital money, connect systems and apply transaction safeguards.

BLOOM’s work includes regulated stablecoins and tokenized deposits, but the applications described are being developed or tested, not reported as completed. Separately, Singapore has proposed changes to its stablecoin rules, including possible recognition pathways for some tokens issued across jurisdictions.
