GreatCollections sold a 1971-S Eisenhower dollar prototype for $189,000 on October 18, 2026, according to its sales recap. The same coin had sold for $264,000 in January 2022, so the latest price was below its earlier peak.
Collector Lee C. Lydston found the coin at the Long Beach Coin Expo on February 15, 2008, and paid less than $10. It is one of three known examples of the Judd-2147 prototype, whose reverse has extra lunar craters and a less-detailed Earth compared with the design released to the public.
