Former FBI agent Patrick Steven Yaroch pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering after prosecutors said he stole $2,474,380.66 in cryptocurrency through about 100 unauthorized transfers tied to 35 FBI investigations. The thefts began no later than December 2024 and involved wallets belonging to suspects and foreign adversaries, as well as at least one FBI undercover wallet.
Prosecutors said Yaroch moved the funds through cryptocurrency transactions to hide their origins and used some proceeds to pay personal debts. The Justice Department said his actions disrupted investigations and exposed sensitive intelligence-gathering methods and sources. He faces up to 20 years in prison, not a fixed sentence; sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2027.
