Hayes sells $22.28M crypto; scammers move in

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said he had sold ETH, ENA, UNI and other tokens to take profits and wait on the sidelines. Onchain tracker Lookonchain identified sales totaling about $22.28 million, led by 6,400 ETH worth about $15.2 million. Onchain Lens reported that Wintermute sent Hayes about 2.43 million USDC, likely proceeds from UNI and ZAMA sales.

Blockscout records showed 26 fake “ETH” transfers in Hayes’s wallet history shortly after the first sale. The tokens were not real ether, and their entries mimicked his transfer amounts and destination addresses. The excerpt reports no sign that Hayes sent funds to a look-alike address.
