Crypto Clash: House Votes on Biden Veto

The U.S. House is set to vote next week on overturning President Joe Biden’s veto of Staff Accounting Bulletin 121 (SAB 121). This rule requires firms holding crypto assets for customers to list these as liabilities, raising concerns in the crypto industry.

The resolution to overturn the veto has bipartisan support, with the Senate previously passing it 60-38. However, overturning the veto in the House requires 290 votes, 60 more than the initial 228. Cody Carbone from the Chamber of Digital Commerce doubts the House will secure the needed votes.

SAB 121 is significant because it impacts how banks and firms manage digital assets. If overturned, it could ease concerns about safeguarding digital assets. If it stands, firms may struggle to comply.

The crypto industry argues that SAB 121 could stifle innovation. The upcoming vote will shape the regulatory landscape for crypto, highlighting the importance of flexibility for financial institutions.

This vote is crucial for determining the future of digital asset regulation and the support level for the crypto industry in Congress.
