Crypto Impacted by Global IT Outage?

On June 19, a massive global IT outage hit, affecting Windows computers worldwide, causing disruptions in India, Germany, Australia, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S. The incident, linked to a software update from CrowdStrike, led to grounded flights, downed 911 lines, and halted banking services.

This is the biggest outage since the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack. It underscores the risks of centralization, as many systems relying on the same software failed simultaneously. In contrast, decentralized blockchain networks, like those used in cryptocurrencies, continued to function smoothly.

Notably, Bitcoin has maintained 100% uptime for 11 years, highlighting its reliability compared to traditional banking systems. The outage’s fallout is significant, with ongoing efforts needed to resolve the issue, potentially taking “some time.” This event emphasizes the need for improved contingency plans in our increasingly digital world.
