Deaton Criticizes Warren’s Anti-Crypto Chevron Bill

XRP lawyer John Deaton has criticized Democratic senators, particularly Senator Elizabeth Warren, for their efforts to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling on Chevron deference. This ruling had previously limited the powers of federal regulators like the SEC.

Deaton, also a Massachusetts Senate candidate, accused Warren of maintaining an anti-crypto stance and conspiring with SEC Chair Gary Gensler to manipulate testimony to support her regulatory agenda. He agreed to debate Warren on the Chevron ruling and other related topics.

Senator Warren’s bill aims to restore the powers of federal agencies to interpret laws when issuing regulations under ambiguously written statutes. Supported by nine other Democratic senators and Bernie Sanders, the bill faces slim chances of becoming law during this Congress due to Republican support for the recent Supreme Court ruling.

The bill’s introduction marks the second attempt by Democrats to reverse this Chevron precedent. Warren argues that far-right, unelected judges are undermining the will of Congress by supporting giant corporations.

With the potential for Donald Trump to win the upcoming presidential election and Gary Gensler expected to resign by early 2025, the influence of Warren and Gensler on tightening anti-crypto regulations may diminish.

Understanding the broader implications, this legislative battle highlights the ongoing tension between regulatory power and judicial oversight in U.S. politics.
