White House, Lummis: Democrats Derailed CLARITY Act

The Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act after a 49–50 vote to invoke cloture, short of the 60 votes needed to begin debate. Every Democrat present voted no, and several Republicans also opposed the measure.

The White House and Senator Cynthia Lummis blamed Democrats for the bill’s failure, saying their requested changes had been added. Democrats said the final ethics language still did not adequately address President Trump and his family’s crypto ventures. The bill would have set rules for the crypto industry and clarified oversight between the SEC and CFTC.
