Renowned rapper 50 Cent revealed that hackers hijacked his X account and personal website on June 21 to promote a fake cryptocurrency called GUNIT. The hackers used his platforms to endorse the meme coin, misleading his millions of followers.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson, explained that the scheme aimed to exploit his social media influence for a pump-and-dump scam. The hackers managed to inflate GUNIT’s value before its price plummeted, costing investors heavily.
Although initially believed that the hackers made off with $300 million, trading activity showed a total volume of just shy of $20 million. This incident underscores the significant risks associated with cryptocurrency scams.
50 Cent previously made headlines in 2018 for reportedly earning millions in Bitcoin from his 2014 album, “Animal Ambition,” though he later denied these claims. This latest hacking incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of high-profile individuals to cyber attacks, emphasizing the need for robust security measures.
