Azerbaijan is cautiously monitoring the development of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), prioritizing monetary policy and financial stability. Central Bank Governor Taleh Kazimov stated that there are no current plans to issue a digital currency.
Kazimov highlighted the technological potential of CBDCs but emphasized the need for thorough evaluation. He noted that no central banks have successfully implemented a digital currency, with most initiatives still in pilot phases.
China leads with its digital yuan, while Russia plans to launch its digital ruble by July 2025. The U.S. remains undecided, with political debates delaying progress.
