Biden’s Veto Sustained: House Fails Override

The U.S. House of Representatives failed to override President Biden’s veto of a bill aiming to end SAB 121, a controversial SEC guidance. In a vote of 228-184, the House fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to overturn the veto.

SAB 121 mandates transparency from public companies regarding the management and risks of customers’ crypto assets. This policy, controversial due to its potential to complicate financial disclosures, has sparked significant debate.

Biden’s veto, earlier this year, opposed Congress’ bipartisan effort to rescind the SEC’s crypto custody guidance. The House previously voted 228-182 against the SEC’s policy, revealing bipartisan concerns over the regulation.

Despite the bipartisan support, today’s vote underlines the slow pace of regulatory changes in the crypto industry. This deadlock reflects broader uncertainty over the regulatory landscape amidst rapid technological advancements.

Maintaining regulatory clarity and investor protection remains crucial as the digital economy evolves.
