SlowMist founder Yu Xian, also known as “Cos” on X, cautioned Telegram users about a surge in phishing attacks within the platform’s ecosystem. On Monday, Xian highlighted how phishing links and scam bots are proliferating due to Telegram’s open-source and free nature.
Xian noted a new method exploiting “Anonymous Telegram Numbers” to access users’ TON wallets. These numbers, similar to phone numbers, allow for anonymous account creation, but phishing for these can compromise the entire account and any associated wallets.
He recommended enabling two-step verification to protect accounts. Additionally, a user named “amoy_Lw” criticized the gaming ecosystem on Telegram, stating it conflicts with the platform’s privacy-focused philosophy.
Recent reports indicate that scams are not limited to games; cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance and Bybit are also being targeted with fake stablecoins on The Open Network (TON). This highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures across the Telegram ecosystem.
Addressing these vulnerabilities is crucial for safeguarding user assets and maintaining trust in the platform.
