Former President Donald Trump’s support for cryptocurrency is gaining traction among Republican voters as he campaigns for re-election. A recent poll by Echelon Insights shows that 13% of likely GOP voters have a more favorable view of Trump due to his pro-crypto stance.
Historically, Trump had called crypto a ‘scam,’ but now he advocates for U.S.-based Bitcoin mining. This shift sets him apart from other candidates and appeals to a younger, male, and non-white demographic within the GOP, 28% of whom own cryptocurrency.
The poll revealed that 60% of respondents want Congress to create clear crypto regulations, with 40% preferring elected officials to lead this effort. Additionally, 94% value the privacy of personal financial records, and 68% oppose central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
Trump’s stance aligns with the Republican National Committee’s new platform supporting digital assets, signaling a broader sentiment shift within the party. This pro-crypto approach could reshape the GOP base and impact upcoming elections significantly.
