The Worldcoin Foundation announced an extension of the token lock-up period for early contributors from three years to five years. This decision, made by Tools for Humanity, aims to bolster the project’s longevity.
Over 211 million WLD tokens have already been claimed by World ID holders, accounting for 77% of the 275 million WLD in circulation. The extension means that starting July 24, Tools for Humanity investors and team members will have about 2 million WLD tokens unlocked daily, down from the planned 3.3 million.
This adjustment is intended to slow the growth of the circulating supply, ensuring project stability. Grants in WLD tokens for verified World ID holders will remain unaffected. Currently, 7.22 billion WLD tokens are held in the Worldcoin Community pool to support long-term sustainability.
This strategic move underscores the commitment to the project’s future and aims to protect its long-term stability.
