Crypto Bets Sink Trump Media with $406M Loss

Trump Media reports significant losses linked to crypto investments

  • Trump Media & Technology Group posted a net loss of $405.9 million in Q1, up from $31.7 million a year prior.
  • The company reported $244 million in unrealized losses on its Bitcoin holdings and an additional $108.2 million in investment losses.
  • As of March 31, Trump Media held approximately 9,542 Bitcoin with a cost basis of $1.13 billion but a fair value of only $647 million.
  • The company’s financial assets reached $2.1 billion, three times the amount from the previous year.
  • Despite losses, operating cash flow was positive at $17.9 million, aided by selling options related to pledged Bitcoin.

The substantial losses primarily stemmed from Bitcoin purchases made during last summer’s market peak, highlighting the volatility associated with digital assets.

In addition to these challenges, Trump Media’s revenue increased slightly to $871,200 compared to the same quarter last year, reflecting ongoing struggles amid significant financial setbacks.
