Banks Increase Share in EU’s Crypto Market Under MiCA Framework
- The number of banks on the EU’s MiCA crypto provider list doubled from about 40 to nearly 80 between June and September.
- Overall, the total number of listed crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) rose from 243 to 349 during this period.
- Banks now account for nearly 23% of the MiCA register, up from around 17% in late June.
- German banks, including Deutsche Bank, have significantly contributed to this growth with new digital asset services planned for approval under MiCA.
- Non-bank providers’ share has decreased from approximately 84% to 77%, despite their absolute numbers increasing.
The rapid expansion of banks into the regulated crypto market reflects a shift towards traditional financial institutions participating more actively in digital assets under the MiCA framework. This trend highlights a growing acceptance and integration of cryptocurrency services within established banking systems.
As of September, banks represent nearly one in four providers on the MiCA register, marking a significant increase in their involvement in the crypto sector.(Source)
