Musk warns 200-plus AI neoclouds risk failure

Elon Musk warned that more than 200 specialist AI cloud providers could fail or consolidate. He said lenders had largely stopped financing companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers, though some providers would survive. Musk said SpaceX had secured $40 billion in debt financing for GPUs because it has investment-grade status and revenue from its Starlink and rocket businesses.

In an October forecast, Gartner said more than 80% of these providers would cease operating independently by 2030. It projected nearly $1 trillion in AI infrastructure spending in 2026 and another $6 trillion from 2027 through 2030, but said revenue would be insufficient to make all those investments profitable.
