AI Elevates Crypto Crimes, Warns Elliptic

Elliptic, a blockchain intelligence firm, warns that artificial intelligence (AI) could significantly escalate crypto crime by making it easier for scammers to impersonate celebrities. In a recent report, Elliptic highlighted that threat actors are already using AI to create convincing deepfakes of famous figures to legitimize fraudulent projects.

One notable instance involves deepfakes targeting Ripple (XRP) and its CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, especially after Ripple’s court victory against the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission in July 2023. The firm also pointed out the emergence of GPT-themed tokens, promoted with false promises of high returns.

Elliptic found hundreds of such tokens across various blockchains, some falsely claiming affiliations with ChatGPT or other reputable AI companies. While most AI-related threats in crypto are still developing, the need for vigilance and proactive measures is crucial.

Addressing these emerging threats is strategically important to safeguard the crypto ecosystem’s future.
