VeChain has upgraded its consensus mechanism with “Finality with One Bit” (FOB) on its testnet. The upgrade, under VIP-220, aims to perfect the Proof-of-Authority (PoA) 2.0 consensus mechanism, enhancing transaction finality.
VeChain’s PoA 2.0 rollout began in November 2021 with Phase 1, introducing a randomness function for node assignment. Phase 2 followed with a committee-endorsed block-production process to minimize forks and delays. The current phase focuses on finality, decoupling it from the PoA process to ensure robustness and minimal complexity.
Chief Scientist Peter Zhou called the finality gadget a milestone, combining advanced security with high performance. At writing, VET is trading at $0.0246, reflecting a recent 19% rise. However, it remains significantly down from its April 2021 peak.
This upgrade is crucial for VeChain’s long-term strategy, aiming for enhanced security and efficiency in blockchain transactions.
