U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Oct. 27, 2026, that growth in digital assets could strengthen the dollar’s global position. Speaking at the Ripple Swell 2026 conference, he argued that wider use of dollar-denominated stablecoins could expand access to the currency and increase demand for U.S. Treasury securities.
Bessent said the Treasury could work with the SEC and CFTC on crypto regulation despite the lack of progress on the CLARITY Act. He cautioned that agency rules would be less durable than a law passed by Congress.
