Buterin Urges Exchanges to Prioritize Survival Amid Rising Hacks

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin urged crypto exchanges and custodians to strengthen security and protect users’ assets during an interview at Devcon 8 in India. He said the next two years would be about survival rather than competition. According to Buterin, major attacks over the past year and a half have mostly targeted user interfaces and centralized infrastructure rather than smart contracts.

Buterin warned that more attacks could prompt regulators to require more conservative custody practices. He recommended multisig wallets and closer assessment of infrastructure risks, and said moving more operations onchain could improve security.
