Hackers Access GMO Internet Clients’ Trading Accounts

GMO Internet confirmed unauthorized access to its Onamae.com Desktop Cloud service after it began investigating client reports on October 19. Up to 26,739 servers were potentially at risk, but that is not a confirmed count of compromised systems. GMO said user information leaked, and attackers may have obtained clients’ MetaTrader credentials. Some users reported unauthorized trades and financial losses; the total losses have not been determined.

GMO said it would reimburse confirmed losses from unauthorized trades, including fees, but customers must provide records showing unauthorized interference. Lost profits and indirect damages are excluded. The company also said every active service user would receive 5,000 yen, whether or not they suffered a loss.
