Mastercard introduced Agent Pay for Machines and opened early access for developers after pilot projects with Cloudflare, Coinbase and other partners. The system is designed to let AI agents pay for digital services on behalf of companies within approved budgets and permissions. Mastercard said developers will receive early versions of buyer and seller APIs, a toolkit, documentation and access to a sandbox.
In a demonstration at Cloudflare Connect, an agent bought research and image-generation services after a budget was approved. The provider verified a digitally signed payment voucher before processing a request; providers can redeem vouchers later. Mastercard said the process did not require separate accounts, API keys or invoices for each provider.
