Crypto Group Seeks Micropayment Tax Relief, Clarity

The Blockchain Association asked congressional leaders in both parties to advance crypto tax changes and launched a website for users to contact lawmakers. These are requests from an industry group, not changes adopted by Congress or the Internal Revenue Service; existing tax records and reporting duties still apply.

The group seeks an exemption for small crypto transactions, cash-like tax treatment for qualifying stablecoins, and taxation of mining and staking rewards when they are disposed of rather than received. Its other priorities include clearer rules for transfers that do not change economic exposure and reporting rules that balance compliance with privacy.
