European Central Bank officials discussed a planned move to T+1 securities settlement in October 2027 alongside longer-term work on tokenized settlement infrastructure, according to a speech published on October 29. The planned date is not a completed network rollout, and the speech does not say blockchain will replace existing settlement systems. Different products and markets may have exclusions or distinct rules.
T+1 would settle most eligible securities trades one business day after the trade date. It would leave firms less time to resolve errors, arrange funding and coordinate across jurisdictions. Tokenized infrastructure is a separate, longer-term project and is not needed to meet the T+1 timetable.
