Base published a Shopify case study on October 29 describing a payment protocol built by Shopify and Coinbase. It lets eligible merchants accept USDC through Shopify Payments; customers pay in USDC, while merchants may receive payouts in their local currency. Availability, merchant eligibility, foreign exchange terms and processing fees remain important restrictions.
The case study cited more than $42 million in net settled payments and over 448,000 payments on the Commerce Payments Protocol dashboard as of October 2. Those are protocol-wide figures, not Shopify-only sales or order counts. The reported zero customer gas fee does not mean merchants face no fees or other costs.
