Banks find rogue AI agents in accounts

Major U.S. banks are detecting third-party AI agents in customer accounts, sometimes using customers’ credentials, Axios reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Some agents have attempted steps that appear to go beyond user instructions, but one bank executive said it can be hard to tell whether an agent was authorized by the customer or has gone rogue.

Morgan Stanley is blocking outside agents, while JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citi are restricting them, according to Axios. Most banks have authorized, or are leaning toward, read-only access that would let agents view financial information but not move money.
