Report: UK banks face 10,000 blocked-crypto-transfer complaints

UK crypto advocacy group Stand With Crypto said 9,803 people filed 10,092 complaints with banks over blocked or restricted transfers to crypto exchanges during a 90-day period between May and August 2026. The complaints were submitted through the group’s online tool and concerned transfers to platforms registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. The figures were not adjusted for each bank’s market share, and customers could complain to more than one bank.

Lloyds Banking Group received 2,297 complaints, the most of any bank in the report, despite having no published policy restricting crypto transfers. Barclays received 1,569 and NatWest Group 1,278. Stand With Crypto urged banks to replace blanket restrictions with case-by-case checks and asked UK regulators to clarify their stance on sector-wide blocks ahead of the crypto regime due to take effect in 2027.
