Circle’s USDC Welcomes DJ Khaled, Sparking Crypto Twitter Backlash
- Circle’s USDC account posted a photo of DJ Khaled in a Chelsea jersey, welcoming him to “team USDC” on X.
- Crypto Twitter reacted negatively due to Khaled’s past involvement with the fraudulent Centra ICO, for which he paid over $150,000 in fines to the SEC.
- Circle is Chelsea FC’s front-of-shirt partner, while Khaled is linked through a separate Roc Nation deal announced in May.
The post by Circle featuring DJ Khaled led to criticism from Crypto Twitter due to his previous undisclosed paid promotions related to ICO scams. Despite no official sponsorship announcement, the association raised concerns given Khaled’s history with crypto promotions.
Circle’s cheeky nod towards DJ Khaled was met with skepticism as users recalled his past SEC fines for promoting fraudulent ICOs without disclosure. The backlash highlights ongoing scrutiny of celebrity endorsements in the crypto space. (Source)
